Construction & Engineering Firm Kiewit Joins U.S. High Speed Rail
USHSR is pleased to welcome Kiewit as its newest member.
"We are excited to welcome Kiewit to our fast-growing Executive Committee," said Andy Kunz, USHSR President. "Kiewit is a leader in delivering major infrastructure projects, and we welcome their experience to help America build out our national high speed rail network."
Kiewit delivers construction and engineering services across eight markets: building, industrial, marine, mining, oil, gas and chemical, power, transportation and water. This breadth allows the company to bring expertise from across the infrastructure and construction industries to complex transportation projects.
“Kiewit is proud to join the U.S. High Speed Rail Association and contribute our experience delivering complex rail and transportation projects,” said Matt Scott, Kiewit Corporation executive vice president. “Our people bring decades of experience to this work, with safety at the center of how we plan and build. As high-speed rail advances in the U.S., we look forward to sharing that experience and working with others across the industry."
The company’s high-speed rail experience includes its work on California’s high-speed rail program. In June, the California High-Speed Rail Authority’s board of directors approved the launch of the initial phase of track and systems installation in the Central Valley.
An American-led consortium of Kiewit, Stacy Witbeck, and Herzog will install the track, overhead contact system, train control and communications infrastructure needed to transform the 119 miles of guideway completed in the Central Valley into an electrified high-speed rail system capable of speeds up to 220 mph.
This follows completion of track installation at the 150-acre southern railhead facility in Kern County, which will serve as the staging and distribution hub for high-speed track and systems installation. The facility is now prepared to receive freight deliveries of rail and other long-lead materials directly procured by the Authority, enabling rapid deployment once work begins later this year.
Kiewit’s self-perform capabilities and experienced workforce help clients and partners manage quality, cost and schedule while maintaining a strong focus on safety. By joining USHSR, Kiewit aims to help accelerate the modernization of U.S. rail systems through innovative project delivery methods.
