US HIGH SPEED RAIL ASSOCIATION ANNOUNCES HIGH SPEED RAIL 2010 FLORIDA Conference to Draw International High Speed Rail Experts to Orlando, FL, March 4-5, 2010
FLORIDA STATE LEGISLATURE PASSES RAIL BILL
Tallahassee, FL – The Florida State Legislature late yesterday passed a bill bringing Florida one step closer to high speed rail. “Congratulations to Florida for showing leadership on this important issue” said Thomas Hart, Vice President for Government Affairs, US High Speed Rail Association. “This puts Florida at the head of the line for Federal stimulus money for building our nation’s 21st century transportation system. The US High Speed Rail Association (USHSR) has been a big supporter of high speed rail in Florida. We congratulate Governor Crist, the Florida legislature, Connect Us, Congresswoman Corrine Brown, and Congressman John Mica for their considerable support in making high speed rail a reality in Florida.” USHSR just announced a major upcoming conference in Orlando on March 4-5, to immediately follow the anticipated release of grants from the $8 billion federal stimulus money coming from the Federal Railroad Administration. USHSR continues to support the Florida initiative and to bring international attention and public and private financing to this exciting transformative project. “As a native of Florida, I am particularly excited about this announcement, and look forward to seeing Florida finally get advanced transportation, which will bring thousands of new jobs to the state”, said Andy Kunz, Founder and CEO of the US High Speed Rail Association.
According to Reuters “backers hope the new law will help draw $2.6 billion in federal stimulus money for a proposed high-speed rail route between Tampa and Orlando. A link connecting Orlando to Miami has also been proposed.” For more information: http://www.reuters.com/article/idUSTRE5B82YH20091209.
