21st Century Transportation for America

USHSR is proud to offer a comprehensive transportation tour covering several major rail stations and several station area developments.  The tour is part of our DC HSR Summit and takes place Wednesday morning February 13.

The tour is included as part of the Summit registration fee (no extra charge) but requires pre-registration.  Space is limited and is available on a first-come basis.  Please wear your Summit name badge to participate in the tour.

The tour starts at 9am in the lobby of the conference hotel (Courtyard Marriott) located at 140 L Street SE, next to the Alion Conference Center in Washington, DC.

The tour will begin with a train ride to visit the NoMa area of Washington DC with introductions from officials of the NoMa Business Improvement District. This will be followed by a walking tour of the newly developed area and a walk along the recreational trail next to the Northeast Corridor train tracks to DC’s Union Station.

Participants will then get a walking tour inside the iconic Union Station, home to Amtrak’s Acela high speed train service.  Union Station is considered one of the great rail stations of the world, and attracts millions of visitors each year.

Participants will also get a birds-eye view down onto the tracks behind the station to see the location of the proposed $7 billion, 3 million square feet new mixed-use development, including a major expansion to Union Station with new high speed train platforms and station areas.

The tour will continue with a train ride into central DC to visit Gallery Place, a highly successful mixed-use development including the Verizon Center, a major sports arena built on top of the metro station, which is incorporated into the DC city street grid. Participants will get a walking tour around the block and through the development.
